A total of 107 personnel have been nominated for prestigious service and gallantry awards as part of this year’s Police Week Bangladesh, scheduled to begin on May 10.

The four-day ceremony will open at the Rajarbagh Police Lines, where recipients will be awarded the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and the President's Police Medal in recognition of bravery and distinguished service.

According to officials at the Bangladesh Police headquarters, this year’s schedule includes not only police personnel but also several officers serving with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), including members from the armed forces. Tarique Rahman is expected to attend the programme as chief guest and formally present the awards.

As part of preparations, all nominated personnel have been instructed to report to the Rajarbaug Police Lines parade ground on May 2.

The directive was issued in an official letter signed by DIG (Confidential) Md. Kamrul Ahsan.

However, as in previous years, concerns have surfaced over the distribution of medals. Critics within and outside the force have long alleged that senior officers receive a disproportionate share of awards compared to junior personnel working in high-risk field operations. Similar observations have emerged regarding this year’s schedule, sparking muted discussions among stakeholders.
