The 11-party alliance has announced a week-long programme of public outreach and leaflet distribution demanding implementation of the referendum verdict. The programme will begin on April 9. The alliance has also called for protest rallies at district and metropolitan levels.

The programme was announced by Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis Ameer and alliance leader Mamunul Haque after a meeting at Al-Falah auditorium in Magbazar, capital, on Tuesday afternoon, April 7.

"Nearly 70 percent of people voted in favour of the referendum in the last election. But unfortunately, the elected government is resorting to various tactics and delaying tactics to implement this verdict. They are mocking the people's mandate and insulting the nation," he said.

He said the current government has decided not to pass 20 important ordinances out of those formulated based on consensus during the interim government. "This is a betrayal of the aspirations of the July revolution. The government wants to bring back one-party rule and fascism in the country."

The public outreach and leaflet distribution programme will be formally inaugurated at Shahbagh in the capital at 5:00 pm on April 9. The programme will continue nationwide for a week. Protest rallies and processions will be held in all metropolitan cities on April 11. Protest programmes will be held in all districts on April 12, and a national seminar will be held at the Diploma Engineers' Institution (Muktijoddha Hall) in Dhaka on April 13.
