11-party alliance begins ‘Long March’ towards Chattogram

The 11-party alliance began a “Long March” from Dhaka to Chattogram, pressing for an end to shortages of electricity, fuel, gas and fertiliser and demanding action on a range of economic and governance issues.

The programme began with an inaugural rally at Shapla Chattar in the capital around 7am on Saturday (September 5).

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and a key leader of the alliance, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, addressed the rally as the chief guest before the procession set off for Chattogram.

The alliance also called for measures to curb rising prices of essential commodities, end extortion and corruption, improve law and order, and stop what it described as excessive partisan control over the state and administration.

Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and alliance coordinator Dr AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, along with leaders of the alliance’s constituent parties, also addressed the inaugural rally.

The convoy is scheduled to hold roadside rallies at several points along the route, including the truck stand near Kanchpur Bridge in Narayanganj, Paduar Bazar Bishwaroad in Cumilla, Mohipal in Feni and Mirsarai.

The programme will conclude with a public rally at Laldighi Maidan in Chattogram.
