11-party alliance calls for protest rally in capital tomorrow
The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance has called for a protest rally in Dhaka, alleging irregularities and rigging in the 13th National Parliamentary Election and various post-election violence. Leaders and activists of the 11-party alliance will hold a protest rally in the capital tomorrow, Monday.
Alliance leaders announced the programme after meeting with Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin on Sunday afternoon. The meeting at the Election Commission began around 12 pm, led by Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretaries General Hamidur Rahman Azad and Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Hamidur Rahman Azad said the homes of leaders and activists of the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance are being attacked following the election, and they have informed the Commission about this matter.
He informed that the 11-party alliance will bring out a protest rally from Baitul Mukarram in Dhaka on Monday to protest against these attacks.
He alleged that voter turnout was low due to intimidation spread during the election. He claimed that alliance agents were forcibly ejected from some places during vote counting.
Hamidur Rahman Azad said, "We who contested the election together have repeatedly informed the Commission and local authorities. But we have not received any satisfactory action."
