Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, on behalf of the alliance, made the announcement at a press conference held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in Dhaka on Thursday night (January 15).

Under the agreed arrangement, Jamaat-e-Islami will contest 179 seats, the National Citizen Party (NCP) 30, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis 20, Khilafat Majlis 10, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) 7, Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) 3, Bangladesh Nezame-e-Islam Party 2 and Bangladesh Development Party 2.

Seat allocations for Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (Jagpa) and Bangladesh Khilafat Andolan are yet to be finalised. The alliance also said discussions remain ongoing with Islami Andolan Bangladesh regarding its participation and seat distribution.

The press conference was moderated by Hamidur Rahman Azad, assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami and coordinator of the 11-party alliance. Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque delivered the opening remarks.

Senior leaders present included Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, NCP Convener Nahid Islam, LDP President Oli Ahmed, AB Party Chairman Mujibur Rahman Manju, Khilafat Majlis Secretary General Jalaluddin Ahmed, and representatives from other alliance partners.

Addressing questions on the remaining 47 constituencies, Taher said efforts were underway to reach a consensus with additional allies. He added that if Islami Andolan Bangladesh formally joins the alliance, details of seat allocations for the remaining constituencies would be announced later.

The alliance said the seat-sharing deal marks a major step toward coordinated participation in the upcoming parliamentary polls.
