11-party alliance seeks vote suspension in several centres of 3 constituencies
The Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance has demanded the suspension of voting at several polling centres in three constituencies; Cumilla-8, Shariatpur-2 and Patuakhali-1—alleging widespread irregularities and voter intimidation.
An alliance delegation submitted the demand during a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Nirbachan Bhaban on Thursday afternoon.
Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Advocate Muazzem Hossain Helal, who led the delegation, later told reporters that voting at the affected centres was disrupted due to irregularities and voters were unable to cast ballots freely. He demanded that polling at these centres be suspended and re-polling arranged.
Helal alleged that in Cumilla-8 constituency alone, alliance polling agents were forcibly removed from 30 centres. Despite written complaints to the returning officer, no action was taken.
The alliance also claimed that BNP activists forcibly stamped ballots in Narsingdi-4, and reported irregularities in Noakhali and Jhalakathi.
As evidence, the 11-party alliance submitted more than 100 video clips and relevant links to the Election Commission.
Helal urged the Commission to take immediate action, stating that there was still time to ensure a free and fair outcome.
