12 more children die from measles, death toll crosses 450
The number of child deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms in the country is rising at an alarming rate. Another 12 children have died in the last 24 hours. Among them, four were confirmed to have measles, while the other eight had shown symptoms.
The information was released in a report on measles published by the Directorate General of Health Services on Friday, May 15.
According to the report, 1,192 new suspected measles cases were detected across the country from 8:00 am Thursday to 8:00 am Friday. During the same period, 111 children were confirmed to have measles.
Among the four confirmed measles deaths, two were from Dhaka division, and one each from Chattogram and Barishal divisions. Among the eight suspected measles deaths, three were from Dhaka division, three from Chattogram division, and one each from Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
According to DGHS data, 377 children have died from suspected measles symptoms since March 15, while 74 more have died after being confirmed with measles. A total of 451 child deaths have been recorded so far.
Additionally, a total of 55,611 children have shown measles-like symptoms since March 15. Of them, 40,176 have been admitted to hospitals. After treatment, 36,055 children have recovered and returned home.
A total of 7,416 children have been confirmed with measles during this period, according to the DGHS.
