13 Chhatra League, Jubo League activists held over Chattogram procession, two buses seized
Police have arrested 13 leaders and activists of Chhatra League and Jubo League after they brought out a procession in the city's Barek Building area on Friday morning.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police said in a press release on Saturday that two passenger buses used in the incident, along with four pieces of white cloth, 10 sticks and 13 pieces of broken bricks, were recovered from the scene.
Additional Commissioner of CMP's Public Relations Branch Aminur Rashid said the 13 activists of banned organisations including Chhatra League, Awami League and Jubo League were arrested following raids based on secret information. The two buses they arrived in have also been seized.
According to the CMP press release, the activists arrived in two passenger buses with white cloth tied around their heads and started a procession in the Barek Building area with the intention of creating sabotage and conspiring against the state and government.
When Double Mooring Police Station police arrived at the scene after receiving information, the accused fled through alleys. Later, based on secret information, CMP conducted raids in various places and arrested the 13 individuals.
The arrested include Halishahar Thana Jubo League president Md Omar Faruk, Sakibul Islam, Double Mooring Thana Chhatra League joint general secretary Ahmad Reza, Jishu Das, Md Saiful Alam Rubel, Md Shariful Islam, Md Ibrahim Khalil, Mohammad Mintu, Md Monirul Islam, Md Hannan, Md Junaydul Alam Tasnup and Md Irfan.
A case has been filed in connection with the incident.
