153 gold bars recovered from aircraft cargo compartment at HSIA

Authorities have recovered 153 gold bars from the toilet panel inside the cargo compartment of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka.

The recovery was made by Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel in coordination with intelligence agencies. The recovered gold weighs approximately 17.901 kilograms, with an estimated market value of around Tk 38 crore.

Airport intelligence sources said the flight arrived in Dhaka from Dubai late Saturday night (March 28). Acting on a tip-off, security and intelligence officials kept the aircraft under surveillance after landing.

Subsequently, with the assistance of AVSEC, a search of the cargo compartment was conducted, during which the gold bars were found hidden inside a toilet panel, wrapped in white cloth.

The recovered gold has been handed over to airport customs authorities.

A case is being filed with the airport police station, but no arrests have been made yet.
