17 more children die with measles symptoms, death toll reaches 311
Seventeen more children have died from confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours. Among them, two died from confirmed measles, according to a press release from the DGHS control room on Monday, May 4.
The number of suspected measles patients across the country stood at 1,456 during the same period. The total number of suspected patients from March 15 to May 4 has risen to 41,793.
Confirmed measles cases rose to 5,467 during the same period, with 154 new confirmed cases identified in the last 24 hours .
The DGHS has recorded a total of 311 deaths from measles and its symptoms across the country in approximately 50 days. Of them, the highest number of fatalities, 161, occurred in Dhaka division .
In the same period, 28,842 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country. Among them, 25,151 have recovered from their treatment and returned home.
Health officials have said intensifying vaccination drives and raising public awareness is crucial to controlling the outbreak . The nationwide emergency measles-rubella vaccination campaign launched on April 20 is vaccinating children aged 6 months to under 5 years .
