17 senior police officers sent into forced retirement

The government has sent 17 police officers of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Additional DIG ranks into forced retirement.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification in this regard from its Police-1 Branch on Thursday (July 23), signed by Senior Secretary Monjur Morshed Chowdhury .

The notification stated that the order has been issued in the public interest and will take immediate effect. They will receive retirement benefits as per rules.

Under the Government Servants (Conduct) Act, 2018, the government can retire any officer after 25 years of service without assigning any specific reason . In the past, the interim government had also sent several senior police officers into forced retirement following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024 .
