18 hospitalised at DMCH due to earthquake near Dhaka

Eighteen people were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s (DMCH) emergency department following Friday’s 5.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Madhabdi in Narsingdi.

The earthquake struck at 10:38am across Dhaka and various parts of the country.

The injured include students from Dhaka University—Arafat, 20, Nurul Huda, 20, and Tanzil Hossain, 26—as well as local residents and workers such as Subia, 14, Sohel, 35, Harunur Rashid, 56, Abul Khayer, 60, a rickshaw puller, 40, Sadik Shikdar, 26, Ripon, 28, Billal, 6, Farzana Tanvir, 23, Prova, 18, Galib, 18, Modhu, 30, and Shojib, 22.

Many were hurt by falling walls and building debris across the city, including Old Dhaka’s Banshal area, where three pedestrians were killed.

Additinally, a newborn was killed when a wall collapsed during Friday’s 5.7-magnitude earthquake at Rupganj in Narayanganj. Fatema’s mother, Kulsuma Begum, and neighbour Jesmin Begum were injured and hospitalised in this incident.

The hospital continues to treat all patients, and authorities are monitoring quake-related damages across the capital.
