198 children die with measles symptoms in one month
The number of children infected with measles and measles-like symptoms has increased at an alarming rate across the country. A total of 198 children have died of measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the past month, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
According to the latest report of the Directorate General of Health Services, these deaths occurred between 8am on March 15 and 8am on April 15. Of these, 32 children have died of measles and another 166 children have died with measles symptoms.
At the same time, 12,398 children have been admitted to various hospitals across the country with measles and measles symptoms. Of these, 2,973 have been confirmed to have measles.
The picture of the last 24 hours is also alarming. During this period, 3 more children have died, one of whom was confirmed to have measles. At the same time, 76 new children have been infected with measles.
An analysis of the report shows that Dhaka division is the most affected in terms of infections and deaths. Here, 94 children have died of measles and symptoms in the last one month and 10,030 people have been infected.
Next is Rajshahi division, where 4,556 children have been infected and 67 have died.
On the other hand, Rangpur division has been relatively less affected. Although 644 children have been infected with measles and symptoms there, no deaths have occurred in the last one month.
Experts say that it is important to strengthen vaccination activities, ensure rapid identification and timely treatment to prevent measles. Otherwise, the situation may become more serious.
