2 children die with measles symptoms in 24 hours, 1,349 infected

The measles situation in the country continues to deteriorate. Two more children have died with measles symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours. During the same period, 1,349 new suspected and confirmed measles patients were identified.

The information was provided in the regular measles report published by the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday afternoon, September 22. The report presented figures for the period from 8am on Monday to 8am on Tuesday.

The DGHS said 1,257 people were newly identified as suspected measles patients in the last day. Additionally, measles was detected in 92 more people through testing. In total, the number of suspected and confirmed measles patients in one day stood at 1,349.

Counting from March 15, the total number of suspected measles patients in the country has reached 182,292. During the same period, the number of confirmed measles patients through testing has reached 20,738.

Meanwhile, 1,176 people were admitted to hospital with measles and various symptoms in the last 24 hours. During the same period, 1,062 people were discharged from hospital after treatment. The report mentioned that from March 15 to date, the number of suspected measles patients admitted to hospital is 182,292.

Alongside new patient identification and hospital admissions, the DGHS's regular statistics also revealed death figures. With two children dying with measles symptoms in the last day, concern is growing further over children's health risks in the ongoing situation.
