2 firefighters electrocuted while putting out fire at Prothom Alo
Two fire service personnel were seriously injured due to an electrical short circuit while extinguishing a fire at the Prothom Alo head office in Karwan Bazar in the capital.
The accident occurred at 8am on Friday (December 19). The injured firefighters are Md. Alamgir Hossain, 40, and Md. Shafiul Islam, 42. They were rescued and quickly admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and are currently undergoing treatment.
Station Commander of Mohammadpur Fire Station Mizanur Rahman said that they were accidentally electrocuted while connecting a water pipe. Considering their physical condition, they were quickly transferred to the hospital.
Inspector in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp Faruk confirmed that both are receiving necessary medical care.
Prothom Alo and Daily Star buildings were set on fire late on Thursday night due to attacks and arson by protesters over the death of Inqilab Mancha convener Sharif Osman Hadi. The accident occurred on Friday morning while fire service personnel were trying to completely extinguish the fire.
Currently, law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring the Prothom Alo office and its surroundings, and maximum caution is being exercised during the firefighting operation.
