2 more deaths, 723 hospitalized due to dengue

The outbreak of dengue continues to surge across the country, with two more deaths reported and 723 new patients admitted to hospitals over the past 24 hours.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) shared this information through a press release on Wednesday (August 12).

According to the notification, the casualties and newly identified cases were recorded during the 24 hours leading up to 8am today.

With these two new fatalities, the total death toll from dengue in the country has risen to 63 this year. Furthermore, the total number of hospital admissions due to dengue has reached 21,550 so far this year.

Over the past 24 hours, 712 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 19,894 this year.

An analysis of DGHS data indicates that the Dhaka division recorded the highest number of new hospitalizations in the last 24 hours with 320 patients, followed by 101 in Barishal, 98 in Khulna, 83 in Chattogram, 63 in Rajshahi, and 45 in Mymensingh.

Monthly breakdown figures show that two people died from dengue in each of January and February, one in May, 13 in June, 36 in July, and 9 so far in August.

According to the latest DGHS data, the increasing number of dengue cases and fatalities during the monsoon season has sparked growing concern over the situation.
