2 more deaths from dengue, 671 hospitalized in a single day

Two more people have died from dengue in the country over the past 24 hours, while 671 new patients have been admitted to hospitals during the same period. With this, the total death toll from dengue this year has risen to 76.

This information was shared in the regular dengue-related press release issued by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday (August 19).

According to DGHS data, out of the patients admitted to hospitals in the last 24 hours, the highest number—294 patients—are from the Dhaka division. Additionally, 133 patients were admitted in the Khulna division, 83 in the Chattogram division, 92 in the Rajshahi division, 70 in the Barishal division, 35 in the Mymensingh division, 6 in the Rangpur division, and 3 in the Sylhet division.

As of August 19, a total of 26,272 people have been admitted to various hospitals across the country due to dengue this year. Among them, 24,374 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment.

The health department stated that currently, 1,822 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals across the country. With the two new deaths reported in the past 24 hours, the death toll from the disease this year has increased to 76.

As new patients continue to be admitted to hospitals daily amid the dengue situation, pressure on the medical service system is also mounting. According to DGHS data, new dengue patients are being identified and hospitalized across various divisions of the country alongside the capital.
