A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed two people—Shah Amanat Sabir and Hossain Tanim—on a fresh three-day remand over their alleged links to an extremist organisation.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order after hearing a petition filed by police.

The court also ordered four other accused, arrested in the same case, to be sent to jail after their remand ended. They are Junaid, Ataullah Shah, Abidur Rahman, and Bayejit.

Confirming the matter, defence lawyer Md Saddam Hossain said the court asked police to submit a report by 12 July, after which it would decide the next course of action regarding the accused.

On 5 July, the court placed all six accused on a three-day remand after showing them arrested under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

After the remand ended, Jatrabari Police Station Inspector AB Siddik, also the investigating officer (IO), sought another seven-day remand for Sabir and Tanim.

During the hearing, the IO sought remand, claiming that important information was obtained during the initial remand.

Opposing the remand plea, the defence argued that the previous three-day remand yielded no progress or recoveries.

They also claimed the accused were only involved in providing martial arts training and had no links to any extremist organisation.

After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail petition filed by the defence and granted a fresh three-day remand for Sabir and Tanim.

According to the previous remand petition, law enforcers conducted a raid in the Mini Cox's Bazar area of the capital’s Jatrabari following intelligence reports that several individuals gathered there and were undergoing training for an extremist organisation.

The suspects allegedly tried to flee during the raid but were arrested.

During preliminary questioning, they failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for their gathering. Police suspected that they might have been involved in the activities of an extremist organisation.
