23 Awami League, Jubo League activists held in Dhanmondi

Police have detained 23 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League, Jubo League and other organisations while they were trying to bring out a procession in the capital's Dhanmondi and surrounding areas.

The detainees include leaders and activists from various districts and upazilas across the country.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhanmondi Zone under Ramna Division, Jisanul Haque, confirmed the matter on Friday afternoon, May 22.

He said the 23 were detained while attempting to bring out a procession during a drive in the Dhanmondi 32 and surrounding areas. Among them are important leaders from various districts, including upazila Jubo League presidents. They were preparing to lead a lightning procession.

The ADC said patrols and security have been intensified to prevent attempts by the banned organisation.

Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Saiful Islam said the leaders and activists of the banned Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League were planning to bring out a large procession. Their plan was to take an oath to bring Sheikh Hasina back to the country.
