249 die of dengue this year, over 80,000 infected
Four more people have died of dengue across the country in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of dengue deaths in the current year has risen to 249. During the same period, 1,978 new dengue patients were admitted to hospital.
The information was provided in the regular report of the Directorate General of Health Services on Thursday, October 1. The report presented data for the 24 hours from 8am on Wednesday to 8am on Thursday.
According to DGHS data, two people died of dengue in Rajshahi division and one each in Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions in the last 24 hours.
With this, the number of dengue infections in the country so far this year stands at 81,598. Among them, 75,699 have been discharged from hospital after treatment. In the last 24 hours alone, 1,809 have recovered and returned home.
So far this year, the highest number of dengue deaths has occurred in September. According to DGHS calculations, 148 people died in that month.
Earlier, 43 people died of dengue in August. A total of 36 died in July and 13 in June. One person died in May.
Additionally, the DGHS had reported two dengue deaths each in January and February at the start of the year.
According to DGHS statistics, the dengue situation in the country has become more severe after the monsoon season. A large portion of the total deaths occurred in September alone.
