26 detained over attack, vandalism at BTRC building in Dhaka
Army have detained 26 individuals following an attack and vandalism at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) building in Agargaon.
Police claimed that all the suspects are mobile phone traders.
The vandalisation took place around 4:30pm when a group hurled bricks and stones at the BTRC premises on Thursday afternoon, causing damage to the building and a BTRC vehicle.
The detainees include Sabbir, Shahin, Rifat, Moin, Anik, Tarek, Hanif, Rabbi, Sohanul, Dipok Hajra, Tarek Aziz, Sajjad, Shipon, Siam, Imran, Monir, Haris, Matiur, Rajon Sheikh, Abu Sadik, Mamun, Mojibur, Salauddin, Rakib, Aminul Islam, and Ahmed Sobuj
Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, said, "A group of mobile phone traders from outside Dhaka joined the protest and carried out the vandalism. Police and military personnel quickly intervened and brought the situation under control."
He added that authorities will conduct verification and take legal action against those directly involved in the attack.
