271 out of 297 MPs are millionaires: Shujan
Out of the 297 MPs who won the 13th National Parliament elections, 271 have assets of more than Tk10 million. This rate of millionaire winning candidates is 91.25 percent of the total candidates. Of them, 187 (62.96%) own assets of more than Tk50 million.
This information was released at a press conference titled 'Presentation of information on newly elected MPs in the 13th National Parliament elections' organized by Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (SHUJAN) at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club on Thursday morning.
According to the report, 201 (96.17%) of the 209 BNP-backed MPs own assets of more than Tk10 million while 52 (76.47%) of the 68 MPs of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami are millionaires.
Shujan's central coordinator Dilip Kumar Sarkar presented the report at the press conference moderated by Shujan's secretary Professor Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar.
According the report, only 2 (0.67%) of the new MPs own assets of less than Tk25 lakh and five of the MPs(1.68%) did not submit their assets.
The analysis shows that the number of millionaires among the newly elected MPs has increased compared to the previous elections. In the 2018 elections, the rate of millionaires was 55.63%, but in this election it has increased to 91.25%. On the other hand, the rate of those with low assets (less than Tk25 lakh) has decreased, while in 2018 it was 18.71%, this time it has decreased to 0.67%.
It also shows that the number of millionaire MPs has increased in the 13th National Parliament elections compared to the 12th National Parliament elections. The rate of millionaires was 89.97% in the 12th election which is currently 91.25%.
Top 10 Wealthiest MPs:
The top 10 wealthiest newly elected MPs are Saeed Ahmed, elected from BNP in Shariatpur-1 constituency, with a total wealth of Tk11,99,95,56,110.

- Fakhar Uddin Ahmed – Mymensingh-11: Tk4,65,14,45,942.
- Naser Rahman – Moulvibazar-3: Tk3,80,64,76,669.
- Md. Jalal Uddin – Chandpur-2: Tk3,64,12,20,106.
- Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed – Dhaka-8: Tk3,25,94,83,266.
- Md. Abdul Hannan (Independent) – Chandpur-4: Tk3,18,18,42,428.
