28 buses seized over allegation of pushing JU student
A group of angry students seized 28 buses of Rajdhani Paribahan on the Dhaka–Aricha highway after a Jahangirnagar University (JU) female student was allegedly pushed and thrown off a bus while boarding on her way back from tuition.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (September 2) night at the Savar Thana stand. The student later received treatment at the university medical centre. The injured student is Halima Khatun, a student of the 2020–21 batch of the Public Administration Department.
A few minutes after the incident, the victim posted on social media: “Today around 5:30 pm, after finishing my tuition and heading from Thana stand, I boarded a Rajdhani bus. The helper asked me where I was going. When I said Jahangirnagar, he responded that it was Zirani. After I boarded, he asked again where I was going. As soon as I said Jahangirnagar, the helper pushed me off. By that time, the driver had left the bus, and I fell from the moving vehicle and felt severe pain in my leg. I have faced such situations before!”
Commenting on the matter, JU Proctor Professor A K M Rashidul Alam said, “The incident is extremely shocking. It is distressing to push someone off a bus. Similar incidents have occurred multiple times before. I have been informed that the bus owners will come today. Once they arrive, discussions will be held, and necessary measures will be taken.”
