2-day remand sought for Shirin Sharmin
Former Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, who was arrested in connection with an attempted murder case at Lalbagh Police Station in Dhaka, has now had a two-day police remand requested for her.
The application was submitted by Mohsin Uddin, the investigator of the Lalbagh Zonal Team of the DB Police on Tuesday (April 7). The hearing on the remand will take place at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana.
According to the remand request, it is alleged that Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, along with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other accused, were indirectly or directly involved in influencing the state’s key decisions, which reportedly led to the incident in question.
The application also notes that questioning the accused about the case has been challenging, as she allegedly avoids answering key questions. Bringing her into police custody for intensive questioning is deemed necessary to determine the whereabouts of absconding suspects, facilitate their arrest, and gather crucial information to uncover the case’s details.
The remand request further warns that if the accused is released on bail, there is a risk that she may abscond permanently and hinder the investigation.
For the sake of a fair and thorough investigation, and to collect essential evidence while tracing and arresting absconding suspects, the DB Police have requested a two-day intensive remand of Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.
