3 children die with measles symptoms in 24 hrs, 1,098 new cases detected

Three more children have died with measles symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours. During the same period, a total of 1,098 suspected and confirmed new measles cases were detected, according to a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services on Sunday, September 6.

The DGHS said 1,043 people were hospitalised with measles symptoms in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases with measles symptoms from March 15 to September 6 to 164,148.

Meanwhile, 55 new confirmed measles cases were detected in the last 24 hours. The total number of confirmed measles cases from March 15 to September 6 has risen to 19,696.

According to the DGHS, a total of 144,168 patients with measles symptoms have been hospitalised from March 15 to September 6, of whom 138,772 have been discharged after recovery.

The death toll also paints a worrying picture. Three children died with measles symptoms in the last 24 hours, bringing the total deaths with measles symptoms from March 15 to September 6 to 894. No deaths from confirmed measles were reported in the last 24 hours.

According to the DGHS, a total of 100 people have died from confirmed measles from March 15 to September 6. As the number of deaths and infections continues to rise in the ongoing measles situation, the need for strengthening child healthcare and preventive measures has become critical.
