3 more children die with measles symptoms in 24 hours
Three more children have died across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours after developing symptoms of measles, bringing the total number of children who have died from measles and measles-like symptoms since 15 March to 925.
The information was disclosed in the Directorate General of Health Services' (DGHS) regular measles surveillance report issued on Thursday (20 August).
According to the report, 99 of the 925 children died after being diagnosed with measles, while 826 died after developing symptoms associated with the disease.
Of the three children who died with measles symptoms over the past 24 hours, two were from the Dhaka Division and one was from the Sylhet Division.
Meanwhile, 68 new measles cases were identified across the country during the same period. Another 1,004 people developed symptoms of measles.
According to DGHS data, from 15 March to Thursday, a total of 146,715 people across the country have developed measles symptoms.
During the same period, measles was confirmed in 18,144 people.
The report also said that a total of 128,026 people were hospitalised nationwide with measles or measles-like symptoms during this period.
Of them, 123,684 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment.
