3 of a family burnt in transformer explosion in Gendaria

A transformer explosion in Gendaria, Dhaka, caused a fire at a residence, leaving three members of the same family injured.

The incident was reported on Friday morning (22 August). The victims have been admitted to the National Burn Unit for treatment.

Moslem Uddin (65), his wife Salma Begum (50), and their son Mezbah Uddin (28) were severely burned in the fire at their home.

According to relatives, the family lived on the second floor of the house, which is located next to an electricity transformer. Around midnight, the transformer exploded, sparking a fire that quickly spread to the residence. All three family members sustained severe burns and were rescued in the early morning, then taken to the Burn Institute for treatment.

Dr. Sultan Mahmud Sikder, resident surgeon in charge of the Burn Institute’s emergency department, reported that Moslem Uddin suffered burns on 90% of his body, Salma Begum on 55%, and Mezbah Uddin on 100%. Their airways were also damaged. All three are currently in critical condition and receiving intensive care.
