3 police officers suspended for unauthorized absence from duty

The government has temporarily suspended three police officers for remaining absent from their workplaces for extended periods without prior approval.

Departmental proceedings have also been initiated against them under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules.

The decision came through three separate notifications signed by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Manjur Morshed Chowdhury. Although the notifications were issued on Wednesday, they were made public on Thursday.

According to the notifications, AKM Ehsanullah, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi, has been absent from duty without authorization since October 29, 2025. He has been suspended with effect from that date and faces departmental charges of misconduct and desertion.

Md Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan, a Superintendent of Police currently attached to the Ministry of Home Affairs as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD), has also been suspended after remaining absent without permission since March 7, 2025. He is facing similar charges of misconduct and desertion.

Meanwhile, Farhana Taskin, an Assistant Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), has been suspended for allegedly remaining absent from duty without authorization since March 28, 2018.

A departmental case has been filed against her on charges of desertion.

The notifications state that all three officers will be entitled to subsistence allowance during their suspension in accordance with government rules.
