Three teachers and one student of Rangpur's Begum Rokeya University (BRU) have secured places on the prestigious list of the world's top 2 percent researchers.

The 2026 list was published based on joint research by Stanford University in the United States and Netherlands-based scientific publishing company Elsevier.

Among the teachers on the list are Professor Dr Md Ferdous Rahman of the university's Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department, Associate Professor Md Hasan Ali of the same department, and Professor Dr Abu Reza Md Towfiqul Islam of the Disaster Management department. Alongside them, Abhijit Ghosh, a student of the EEE department, has also secured a place on the list.

Professor Dr Md Ferdous Rahman, who is on the list, is currently serving as the registrar of Begum Rokeya University alongside his research work. The inclusion of a student from the same university on the list of the world's best researchers has added a new dimension to the institution's research activities.

Speaking about the achievement, Professor Dr Abu Reza Md Towfiqul Islam said he is grateful to Almighty Allah for securing a place on the list of top 2 percent scientists for 2026. He said he has been on the list for a fifth consecutive time — from 2022 to 2026. He dedicated the recognition to his family, co-researchers, students, colleagues and research collaborators.

He said the cooperation and inspiration of everyone involved in his research journey have played an important role. He also expressed his determination to continue working for the creation of knowledge, research and human welfare in the future.

University Registrar Professor Dr Md Ferdous Rahman also expressed satisfaction over the achievement, saying the inclusion of three teachers and one student on the list is a significant achievement for the university. He expressed hope that more teachers and students will achieve international recognition in research in the future, and that this will further expand the scope of research at Begum Rokeya University.
