30 ministers-state ministers-whips get new responsibilities of 64 districts

The government has distributed the responsibilities of monitoring and coordinating government activities including law and order situation, corruption and drug control and good governance of the country’s 64 districts among 30 ministers, state ministers and whips. This responsibility has been given with the aim of more effectively implementing and coordinating various activities of the government at the district level.

A gazette on this was issued from the Field Administration Connection Branch of the Cabinet Division on Thursday (August 27). The notification said there are allegations of massive corruption and looting of money in the name of development allocation in various districts in the previous time. It also mentioned the matter of a part of the looted money being smuggled abroad and the other part being used in various social and state harmful activities including drugs.

According to the government’s decision, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud has got the responsibility of Rajshahi and Natore, Abu Zafar Md Zahid Hossain of Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari and Panchagarh and Abdul Awal Mintoo of Lakshmipur district. Nitai Roy Chowdhury has been given the responsibility of Chuadanga, Khandaker Abdul Muktadir of Habiganj and Ariful Haque Chowdhury of Moulvibazar.

Besides, Md Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee has got the responsibility of Chattogram, M Rashiduzzaman Millat of Sherpur, Mymensingh and Netrokona, Asadul Habib Dulu of Thakurgaon and Dinajpur and Md Asaduzzaman of Khulna, Satkhira and Bagerhat. Zakaria Taher has got Feni and Noakhali, Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain Bakul of Manikganj and Munshiganj, Saching Pru of Cox’s Bazar and Md Shariful Alam of Tangail and Narsingdi districts.

Shama Obaid Islam has been given the responsibility of Madaripur and Shariatpur, Anindya Islam Amit of Meherpur, Kushtia and Jhenaidah, Abdul Bari of Bogura and Chapainawabganj and Sultan Salauddin of Dhaka district. Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin has got the responsibility of the three hill districts Khagrachhari, Bandarban and Rangamati. Habibur Rashid has got Gazipur and Narayanganj and Md Rajib Ahsan of Barguna, Patuakhali and Pirojpur. The responsibility of Rangpur, Gaibandha and Kurigram has been given to Mir Shahe Alam.

Farzana Sharmin has got Sirajganj and Pabna, Sheikh Faridul Islam of Jashore, Magura and Narail, Imran Khan Chowdhury of Jamalpur and Kishoreganj and Ahmed Sohel Manjur of Barishal, Bhola and Jhalakathi. Mohammad Shamim Kaiser has got Joypurhat and Naogaon, Md G K Gaus of Sylhet and Sunamganj, Mia Nuruddin Ahmed of Rajbari, Faridpur and Gopalganj and A B M Ashraf Uddin (Nizan) of Brahmanbaria, Cumilla and Chandpur.

According to the notification, the responsible ministers, state ministers and whips will give necessary advice to keep the law and order situation of the concerned district normal, stop the abuse and illegal trafficking of drugs, prevent smuggling and suppress old crimes. Alongside, they will monitor the implementation of the government’s election manifesto, poverty alleviation, creation of employment, social security and various development activities. They will also have the opportunity to take part in various government meetings of the district as needed and give advice to the concerned.
