30 NCP leaders oppose alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami
Thirty central committee leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) have opposed any political alliance or seat-sharing arrangement with Jamaat-e-Islami, citing ideological and ethical concerns.
The leaders submitted a memorandum to NCP Convener Nahid Islam on Saturday (December 27), outlining their objections under the title “Principled Objections to Potential Alliances in Light of the July Mass Uprising and Party Values.”
In the memorandum, the signatories said recent discussions over a possible alliance or seat-sharing deal with Jamaat-e-Islami and its eight-party bloc were fundamentally unacceptable. They accused Jamaat and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, of pursuing divisive politics, infiltrating other parties, sabotaging organisational activities, and attempting to implicate the NCP in various incidents.
The leaders also alleged misinformation campaigns surrounding student union elections, online character assassination targeting the party and its female members, and the use of religion to promote what they described as “social fascism.”
Referring to Jamaat’s role during the 1971 Liberation War, including opposition to independence and alleged involvement in atrocities, the memorandum said any alliance would be incompatible with Bangladesh’s democratic values and the NCP’s core principles.
The leaders warned that partnering with Jamaat would undermine the party’s moral stance and erode its long-term political credibility. They urged the NCP leadership to take a clear and public position against entering any alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami.
