300 detained at JaSaD office being taken to police station for verification

Deputy Police Commissioner of Motijheel Division Md Harun Or Rashid has informed that about 280 to 300 persons gathered in front of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD) office of the capital are being taken to the police station for verification and scrutiny.

He informed this information while talking to the journalists under the central office of JaSaD of the capital in the evening on Saturday (September 26).

DC Harun Or Rashid said police took primary measures after getting the information that the members of Bangladesh Awami League and its associate organizations had gathered there for some purpose. At this time the local students and people also cooperated with the police.

He said it is being verified what their purpose was behind gathering there, what type of activities they have done and what type of information they had. Police has the information primarily that the persons gathered there gave the slogan of ‘Joy Bangla’. Beyond this whether they were involved in any other activity and why they had assembled there is also being examined.

This officer of the police informed that according to the primary calculation the number of people gathered there is about 280 to 300. As the concerned officers are engaged in the work of verification and scrutiny it is not possible to say the exact number at this moment.

He further said, ‘We are taking them to the police station in the interest of their security and for verifying and scrutinizing the entire incident. Cases or legal measures will be taken against those whose involvement will be found after verification and scrutiny. And for those whose involvement will not be found, the other process that exists according to the law will be followed.’

In reply to the question whether any journalist or anyone of any other profession has been detained there DC Harun said whether there are journalists or people of any other profession there will be verified and subsequent measures will be taken.

When asked whether they had permission to gather in front of the JASAD office he said the matter is being primarily verified. The spot is under the jurisdiction of Paltan police station. They may be kept at any nearby police station if necessary for the convenience of the investigation.
