32 executive magistrates posted to eight divisions

A total of 32 executive magistrates have been posted to eight divisions to perform duties in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

The posting was made through a government notification signed on Thursday (29 January) by Md Nur-e-Alam, Deputy Secretary of the Deputation-2 Wing of the Ministry of Public Administration.

According to the notification, the officers of the BCS (Administration) cadre have been appointed as executive magistrates under Section 10(5) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, and empowered to conduct mobile courts under Section 5 of the Mobile Court Act, 2009. The appointment will remain effective until two days after polling to ensure enforcement of the election code of conduct.

Of those appointed, seven have been posted to Dhaka Division, five to Chattogram Division, four each to Khulna and Rajshahi divisions, three to Barishal Division, two to Sylhet Division, three to Rangpur Division and four to Mymensingh Division.

The notification states that the concerned divisional commissioners will assign the empowered executive magistrates based on local requirements within their jurisdictions. After posting, the magistrates must report to the respective district magistrates or returning officers.

The executive magistrates are also required to keep the respective district magistrates informed about mobile court operations and submit daily reports in the prescribed format to both the district magistrate and the returning officer.
