33 deaths from dengue in seven days

The Directorate General of Health Services has said five more people have died from dengue in the last 24 hours. In the same period 1,484 people have been admitted to hospitals. This takes the number of deaths from dengue in the last seven days to 33.

This information has been given in the regular dengue bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services on Thursday (September 17).

According to the calculation of the Directorate General of Health Services, 176 people have died from dengue so far this year. Of them 43 died in August alone. 79 people have died in the first 15 days of September. In addition, 36 people died in July, 13 in June, one in May and two each in January and February from dengue.

The bulletin said 1,484 dengue patients were admitted to various hospitals across the country in the 24 hours from 8am Wednesday to 8am Thursday. This takes the number of dengue patients admitted to hospitals this year to 58,400.

In the same period 1,513 people returned home after recovering from hospitals. So far this year 54,092 people have been discharged after completing treatment.

The highest number of patients were admitted in Dhaka Division in the last 24 hours. 624 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in this division. Then 252 in Khulna Division, 221 in Barishal, 192 in Chattogram, 102 in Rajshahi, 64 in Mymensingh, 35 in Rangpur and four in Sylhet.

The latest statistics of the Directorate General of Health Services say the number of deaths from dengue so far in September has increased rapidly compared to other months. At the same time the pressure of dengue patients is also increasing in the country’s hospitals as new patients are being admitted to hospitals every day.
