The government has sent 33 police officers of DIG and Additional DIG ranks into forced retirement. The order was issued through a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday night, July 5.

Among those sent into retirement are 14 Deputy Inspector Generals (DIG), 17 Additional Deputy Inspector Generals (Additional DIG) and two Superintendents of Police (SP). However, the notification did not specify any particular reason for their forced retirement.

According to Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018, if a government employee has completed 25 years of service and the government deems it necessary in the public interest, the employee can be retired (forced retirement) without any show-cause notice.
