In a major “rescue play,” 345 Bangladeshis stranded in Libya have been safely repatriated, arriving in Dhaka Friday morning on two Burak Air chartered flights.

The operation, coordinated by the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, Foreign Ministry, and Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, with support from the Libyan government and IOM, targeted those who had fallen prey to human traffickers while attempting illegal migration to Europe.

Most of the returnees had entered Libya under the influence of human traffickers, aiming for illegal passage to Europe, and many had suffered kidnapping, abuse, and detention during their stay.

On arrival in Dhaka, the returnees were welcomed by officials from the Foreign Ministry and IOM, receiving transport assistance, essential food supplies, and initial medical care. Authorities urged them to share their harrowing experiences to educate others and prevent future exploitation.

The government, in collaboration with IOM and the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, continues to work tirelessly to bring all detained Bangladeshi nationals safely home, ensuring secure repatriation from detention centers across Libya.
