37 polling centres in Dhaka identified as high-risk: DMP Commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has identified 37 polling centres in the capital as high-risk ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum, DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali said on Monday (February 9).

Speaking at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on the security arrangements for the upcoming polls, the commissioner said Dhaka has a total of 1,614 important polling centres, each staffed with four police personnel. Additionally, 517 general polling centres will have three officers each.

"High-risk centres will be staffed with seven police personnel each, along with body cameras," he said.

He added that 25,000 DMP personnel have received election-specific training. The DMP’s Special Reserve Force, Bomb Disposal Unit, and Dog Squad will also be on standby to handle any situation.

The briefing was attended by Additional Police Commissioner (Admin) Sarwar and Additional Police Commissioner S M Nazrul Islam.
