3rd terminal of Shahjalal Airport to open on December 16: Info Minister

The much-awaited third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will be officially launched on December 16. Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon gave this information at a briefing held at the Secretariat on Tuesday (May 19).

In the briefing, he said that the launch of the third terminal will usher in a new era in the country's air transport system and passenger services will be more modern and dynamic.

Talking about the measles situation, the Information Minister said that the incident of child deaths has taught everyone a big lesson. Due to irresponsibility, the state has to pay a big price later.

At the time, he said that the Ministry of Environment has taken the initiative to launch an environmentally friendly electric bus service in the capital Dhaka. In addition, AI-based traffic management has already been introduced at 25 important points in the city to control traffic congestion.

Regarding the canal excavation program, the minister said that the government aims to complete the work of digging 1,200 kilometers of canals in the next 180 days. In addition, 20,000 kilometers of canals will be dug across the country in the next five years.

He also said that Tk 3 lakh 594 crore has been allocated for the health sector in the upcoming national budget.

Regarding media freedom and management, the Information Minister said that there is currently some chaos in media management. The government is taking the initiative to form a commission to bring it into a disciplined structure. For this purpose, a review committee will be formed by June and the draft of the commission will be submitted to the Prime Minister by July.

Prime Minister's Information Advisor Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman was also present at the briefing.
