4 dengue deaths in 24 hours, 1,558 hospitalised

Dengue infections are rising at an alarming rate across the country. Four more people have died from dengue in the last 24 hours. During the same period, 1,558 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country.

The information was provided in a dengue update from the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Sunday, September 6. With the new cases, the total number of deaths from dengue this year has risen to 117. The total number of hospitalised patients has reached 42,590.

According to the DGHS, the highest number of patients were admitted in Khulna division in the last 24 hours, with 334 dengue patients seeking hospital care. Additionally, 316 patients were admitted from areas outside the city corporations in Dhaka division, 169 in Chattogram, and 137 in Barishal.

A significant number of patients were also admitted in the two Dhaka city corporations. Among them, 193 patients received treatment in Dhaka North City Corporation area and 148 in Dhaka South City Corporation area. Additionally, 112 patients were admitted in Rajshahi division, 84 in Mymensingh, 59 in Rangpur, and nine in Sylhet.

According to the DGHS, the dengue situation is becoming increasingly severe this year. In 2023, the country experienced its worst dengue outbreak, with 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 deaths.

With infections continuing to rise this year, authorities are emphasising the destruction of mosquito breeding grounds, intensifying cleanliness drives and ensuring prompt treatment for those affected to control the outbreak.
