4 more children die with measles symptoms in 24 hours, 931 new cases

Four more children have died with measles symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours. However, no confirmed measles deaths were reported during this period. Over the same period, 931 new suspected measles cases were identified, with 87 confirmed as measles.

The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services provided this information in its regular press release on Wednesday (August 19).

The release said among the four children who died with measles symptoms in the last 24 hours, two were from Dhaka, one from Sylhet and one from Barishal.

Between March 15 and August 19, over a span of 157 days, a total of 922 children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms. Among them, 823 died with measles symptoms and 99 from confirmed measles.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, the total number of suspected measles cases in the country since March 15 now stands at 145,711. Of these, 787 were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours, bringing the total hospitalisations to 127,076.

During this period, 925 patients recovered and were discharged from hospital. In total, 122,805 patients have been discharged after recovery so far.

Meanwhile, 87 new confirmed measles cases were detected in the last 24 hours. The total number of confirmed measles cases in the country since March 15 now stands at 18,076.
