468 tonnes of potatoes imported from India thru Benapole

Some 468 metric tonnes of potatoes have been imported from India.

These potatoes arrived at the Benapole Land Port railway station in Jashore on Thursday (December 12) evening in a freight train. The consignment will be unloaded on Saturday (December 14).

Nazmul Arefin Johnny, representative of Benapole Land Port's C&F agent Alam & Sons, said that 468 metric tonnes of potatoes have been imported from India by train. Documents will be submitted to the Benapole Customs House on Saturday to release the consignment. After completing the customs and railway station activities, the potatoes will be unloaded at Benapole port or Nawapara. From Nawapara, the potatoes will be sent to various parts of the country including Dhaka and Chattogram.

Benapole Station Master Saiduzzaman told the media, “An importing company named Tata Traders of Chapainawabganj imported the potatoes. An exporting company named Atif Export of Malda, India, exported the consignment. Some 9,460 bags of potatoes were imported in a train. The weight of the goods was 468,000 kg. The import value of the consignment is $1,07,640.”
