47th BCS: Police obstruct candidates’ march towards Jamuna
Candidates demanding postponement of the 47th BCS written examination faced obstruction from police when they attempted to march towards the state guesthouse Jamuna. The protest procession began from the Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday afternoon, November 25. When police stopped them in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh, the protesters staged a sit-in there.
The candidates said that while previous BCS batches were given six months to one year for preparing for the written examination, this time the written test is being held in less than two months after the preliminary results. They said it is difficult and unreasonable to prepare for the written examination in such a short period of time.
The candidates also said that during the demonstration, the behaviour of the PSC chairman appeared ‘authoritarian’ to them. They announced that they would continue their movement on the streets if their demands were not met. They also gave the PSC a deadline to take an effective decision, including postponing the examination before November 27. They further demanded the resignation of the PSC chairman.
The written examination of the 47th BCS is scheduled to be held simultaneously in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensingh from November 27. The examinations related to technical and professional cadre positions will continue until December 18.
Notably, the preliminary examination of the 47th BCS was held on September 19 this year. A total of 374,747 candidates took part, of whom 10,644 passed. The PSC published the preliminary results on September 28.
