497 people killed in 415 road accidents in November
In the outgoing month of November, 415 road accidents resulted in 497 deaths and 747 injuries in the country. This month, 79 deaths and 43 injuries were reported in 64 railway accidents. 6 deaths, 29 injuries were reported in 7 waterways accidents and 2 people are missing.
A total of 582 deaths and 819 injuries were reported in 486 road, rail and waterways accidents. During this period, 192 deaths and 111 injuries were reported in 167 motorcycle accidents. This is 40.24 percent of the total accidents, 38.63 percent of the fatalities and 14.86 percent of the injuries. This month, the highest number of road accidents occurred in Dhaka division, with 106 road accidents resulting in 129 deaths and 264 injuries, while the lowest number of road accidents occurred in Mymensingh division, with 27 deaths and 45 injuries in 26 road accidents. This information has emerged from the observation report of the Accident Monitoring Cell of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity.
The organization presented this report in a press release signed by the organization's Secretary General Md. Mozammel Haque Chowdhury on Tuesday, December 17. The members of the Road Accident Monitoring Cell of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity have prepared this report by monitoring the news of road, rail and waterway accidents published in widely circulated and credible national, regional and online newspapers.
Among the people injured in road accidents, 5 law enforcement officers, 253 drivers, 116 pedestrians, 118 transport workers, 57 students, 15 teachers, 67 women, 35 children, 7 journalists, 1 doctor, 10 leaders and activists of different political parties and 02 freedom fighters have been identified. Among them, 2 army personnel, 167 drivers of various transport vehicles, 105 pedestrians, 55 women, 27 children, 45 students, 21 transport workers, 13 teachers, 1 doctor, 2 journalists, 2 freedom fighters, 8 leaders and activists of various political parties were killed.
During this time, the identities of 588 vehicles involved in road accidents have been identified. It can be seen that 30.10 percent were motorcycles, 22.10 percent were trucks-pickups-covered vans and lorries, 16.15 percent were buses, 20.58 percent were battery-operated rickshaws and easy bikes, 3.74 percent were CNG-powered auto-rickshaws, 3.06 percent were Nachiman-Kariman-Mahindra-tractors and Lagunas, and 4.25 percent were cars-jeeps-microbuses.
Of the total accidents, 50.12 percent were car-ramming incidents, 21.68 percent were head-on collisions, 18.31 percent were due to losing control and falling into ditches, 9.16 percent due to various reasons, and 0.72 percent were train-vehicle collisions.
Analysis of the accident types shows that 30.84 percent of the total accidents occurred this month on national highways, 40.24 percent on regional highways, and 22.89 percent on feeder roads. In addition, 3.86 percent of the total accidents occurred in Dhaka Metropolitan City, 1.45 percent in Chattogram Metropolitan City, and 0.72 percent occurred at railway crossings.
