5 more children die from measles and measles-like symptoms
One child has died from confirmed measles and four others have died with suspected measles symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours. With these deaths, the total number of people who have died from confirmed measles and suspected measles complications this year has risen to 885.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to data covering the 24-hour period from 8am Tuesday to 8am Wednesday, one person died of confirmed measles in Rajshahi division.
Of the four people who died with suspected measles symptoms, one was from Dhaka division, one from Barishal and two from Sylhet.
According to the DGHS, 99 people have died from confirmed measles infections in the country so far this year, while another 786 have died with suspected measles symptoms.
A further 84 people tested positive for measles in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed measles cases this year to 17,469.
Meanwhile, 941 more people were found to have measles-like symptoms during the same period.
The number of suspected cases with measles symptoms recorded so far this year has therefore risen to 139,125.
