The government has taken new initiatives to strengthen security in upazila health complexes across the country, control the violence of brokers and ensure safe medical services for patients. As part of this, 5,000 armed Ansar members have been deployed in 500 upazila health complexes across the country.

This information was given at a program to provide necessary guidelines to the Ansar members incorporated in the headquarters of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force on Wednesday (July 1). Brigadier General Mamunur Rashid, Additional Director General of the force, was the chief guest at the program.

He said that under the government's national security plan, 10 Ansar members will be on duty in each upazila health complex. Among them, there will be a platoon commander, an assistant platoon commander and eight Ansar members. They will take turns on duty 24 hours a day to ensure the security, discipline and uninterrupted service of the hospital.

Brigadier General Mamunur Rashid said that Ansar members should also play an effective role in preventing brokering, illegal ambulance trade, drug syndicates and other criminal activities in hospitals.

He also said that Ansar members have already shown efficiency, honesty and professionalism in various government specialized hospitals and healthcare institutions of the country. That reputation should be maintained at the upazila level as well. Strict legal action will be taken against any member involved in immoral or criminal activities.

It was informed at the event that a modern software-based verification system is in place to ensure transparency in the recruitment and deployment process of the Ansar force. Through this, the selection of qualified members and the professionalism of the force are being further strengthened.

The Additional Director General expressed hope that if the members continue to perform their duties efficiently, honestly and in a disciplined manner, the opportunities for foreign employment of Ansar members in various countries including Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Moldova will further increase.
