Five thousand metric tonnes of diesel has arrived at the Parbatipur Railhead Depot in Dinajpur via pipeline from the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam, India.

Depot Assistant In-Charge Md Jibon confirmed the matter on Friday, March 27. The diesel arrived late on Thursday night.

He said it took 60 hours for the diesel to travel directly through the pipeline from the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam to the Parbatipur Railhead Depot in Dinajpur. The 5,000 metric tonnes of diesel arrived via pipeline late Thursday night. The fuel was stored at the Padma, Meghna and Jamuna depots by 8:00 am on Friday.

A 15-year agreement was signed with India on October 22, 2017, to supply diesel through the pipeline to ensure fuel for irrigation in eight agriculture-dependent northern districts and to maintain uninterrupted diesel supply for vehicles. A total of 180,000 metric tonnes of diesel is scheduled to arrive through the pipeline by this year.

According to the agreement, Bangladesh will be able to import a total of 180,000 metric tonnes of diesel in 2026. Accordingly, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation has received 5,000 metric tonnes of diesel supply up to February.

Earlier, 5,000 metric tonnes of diesel arrived on March 11. Another 5,000 metric tonnes arrived on Friday, with a further 5,000 metric tonnes expected to come through the pipeline next week.

Additionally, BPC has submitted a proposal through the Ministry of Energy to import an extra 50,000 tonnes of diesel through the same pipeline over the next four months.
