56 police officers sent into retirement

The government has retired 56 officers of the Bangladesh Police, including 49 inspectors and seven assistant superintendents of police (ASPs), citing public interest.

The Home Ministry’s Police-1 branch issued separate gazette notifications on Thursday (August 13) announcing the decision.

According to the notifications, the officers had completed 25 years of service. They were retired under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018. The orders, issued by order of the President, took immediate effect.

The retired officers will receive all benefits and entitlements applicable under government rules, the notifications said.

The seven ASPs are Nure Alam Siddiqui of RAB headquarters; Md Nurul Mottakin, assistant commissioner (Patrol) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon Division; Kazi Wazed Ali of Matiranga Circle in Khagrachhari; Md Syeduzzaman of Galachipa Circle in Patuakhali; Md Golam Kibria of RAB-2; Mohammad Mizanur Rahman of the Dhaka Reserve Police Force; and Md Robiul Islam of Sirajganj.

A separate notification ordered the retirement of 49 police inspectors under the same provision of the law.

The government did not provide further details in the notifications on the specific reasons for retiring the officers beyond citing public interest and their completion of 25 years of service.
