6 deaths from dengue in one day, 87 lives lost in September

The Directorate General of Health Services has informed that the upward trend of infection and deaths from dengue in the country is continuing. Six more people have died from this mosquito-borne disease in the last 24 hours. In the same period 1,593 new dengue patients have been admitted to hospital. With this the number of deaths from dengue this year has increased to 184. And 61,972 people have been admitted to hospital after being infected from the beginning of the year till now.

These pieces of information have been informed in the daily dengue report of the Directorate General of Health Services. The situation of 24 hours from 8am on Saturday to 8am on Sunday was highlighted in the report published on Sunday. Among the six newly deceased two each are in Chattogram and Khulna divisions and one each in Dhaka and Barisal divisions.

Among the new patients 171 have been admitted to hospital in Dhaka North City Corporation area and 132 in Dhaka South City Corporation area. Another 384 have been admitted in the other areas of Dhaka division. Besides, 292 in Khulna division, 167 in Chattogram, 154 in Barisal, 137 in Rajshahi, 82 in Mymensingh, 65 in Rangpur and nine new patients have been admitted to hospital in Sylhet division.

Meanwhile 1,587 dengue patients have received discharge from hospital after finishing treatment in the last 24 hours. Altogether 57,610 patients have left the hospital after becoming healthy by taking treatment this year till now.

The calculation of the Directorate General of Health Services says the highest number of deaths from dengue this year has occurred in September itself. 87 people have died in the first 20 days of the month. Earlier 43 died in August, 36 in July and 13 in June. Information of the death of one dengue patient in May and two each in January and February has been found.

In the current situation of dengue the number of daily infection and deaths of September is drawing special attention. According to the government calculation, 61,972 patients have been admitted to hospital from the beginning of the year and among them 57,610 have already received discharge. As a result along with detecting new patients and admission to hospital the incidents of death are also increasing regularly.

According to the information of the Directorate General of Health Services, the most devastating year of the dengue situation in the country was 2023. That year 3,21,179 people had been admitted to hospital and 1,705 had died. Last year also the Directorate General of Health Services had informed the information of the death of 413 people from dengue and 1,02,861 being infected.
