6 more die of dengue, 2,089 hospitalised in in a Day
The dengue outbreak continues to persist across the country. In the past 24 hours, six more people have died after being infected with the mosquito-borne disease. During the same period, 2,089 patients were hospitalised with dengue across the country. With this, the death toll from dengue has risen to 262 so far this year.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the figures in its regular dengue report on Sunday (October 4). According to the report, alongside the new hospital admissions, 1,865 dengue patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals over the past 24 hours.
According to DGHS data, the highest number of new dengue patients were hospitalised in areas of Dhaka Division outside city corporation jurisdictions. A total of 514 patients were admitted in these areas. Chattogram Division recorded 334 new admissions, while 330 patients were hospitalised in Khulna Division.
In addition, 224 patients were admitted in Rajshahi Division, 203 in Barishal Division, 196 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 106 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 99 in Mymensingh Division, 83 in Rangpur Division and 10 in Sylhet Division.
Dengue-related deaths were also reported from several regions. Two people died in the Dhaka South City Corporation area over the past 24 hours. During the same period, three deaths were reported from areas of Khulna Division outside city corporation jurisdictions, while one person died in an area of Mymensingh Division outside the city corporation.
According to DGHS statistics, a total of 86,458 people have been hospitalised with dengue across the country as of October 4 this year. Of them, 80,347 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. Dengue patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
The severity of the dengue situation is also evident from statistics from previous years. In 2025, a total of 102,861 dengue patients were hospitalised nationwide, while 413 people died from the disease. In 2024, 101,214 people were hospitalised with dengue and 575 deaths were recorded.
The dengue situation was even more severe in 2023. That year, 321,179 people were hospitalised with dengue across the country, while 1,705 people died from the disease, marking one of the highest annual dengue death tolls recorded in recent years.
