6 more die of dengue, death toll rises to 239

The dengue outbreak continues across the country. Six more people have died of the mosquito-borne disease in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of dengue deaths in the current year has risen to 239.

The information was provided in the regular dengue-related press release of the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday, September 29.

According to DGHS calculations, one dengue patient died in the Dhaka North City Corporation area and one in the Dhaka South City Corporation area in the last day. Additionally, one died in an area outside the city corporations in Dhaka division and three in an area outside the city corporations in Rajshahi division.

During the same period, 1,924 people were newly admitted to various hospitals across the country with dengue. Among them, the highest 378 were admitted to hospital in areas outside the city corporations in Dhaka division. A total of 301 were admitted in Chattogram division, 264 in Khulna division, 229 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 213 in Barishal division, 179 in Rajshahi division, 178 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 120 in Mymensingh division, 56 in Rangpur division and six in Sylhet division.

According to DGHS data, a total of 239 people died of dengue in the country from January 1 to September 29 of the current year. Among them, 113 died in various areas of Dhaka division, including the two city corporations.

Additionally, during the same period, 45 people died in Khulna division, 23 in Chattogram division, 20 in Mymensingh division, 18 in Barishal division, 14 in Rajshahi division, five in Rangpur division and one in Sylhet division.

As the number of dengue infections and deaths continues to rise this year, concerned officials are emphasising destroying mosquito breeding grounds and raising public awareness to control the spread of the disease.
